I'm back in Santa Rosa for work for 2 weeks. Since I was here Sunday night-Thursday morning nearly every week last year, it really is kinda like coming home. The front desk clerk last night was like "hey, long time no see," when I came in last night, and the waitress at breakfast remembered my breakfast order (oatmeal with cinnamon and brown sugar, coffee, and fruit).
This morning I had my best run in quite awhile. I needed it after many days of workouts where my legs felt like lead. I ran along the Brush Creek trail and it was a nice sunny morning. I had just planned to do an easy hour, but I felt so good I turned it into an interval workout. 30 seconds hard with 30 seconds of recovery X 4, then 2 minutes normal pace, repeat 8 (I think 8, but I honestly lost track).
Since I'm going to be working a zillion hours the rest of the week and stuck eating hospital food, I tried to pack in some of my favorite eats today. For lunch, I wanted to go to Betty's Fish and Chips, this cute and tiny little place right by my hotel.
Last year I had this amazing sandwich there- fresh multigrain bread, crab meat, avocado, lettuce and tomato. It was one of those meals that stuck in my mind because it was so darn good! They didn't have an on-line menu, so when I called to order takeout I just asked for the crab sandwich. Apparently, this was the wrong thing because I ended up with a grilled cheese with crab on white bread.
It was still good, pretty darn good actually, but not the sandwich I was craving. However, the fact that I got to eat it out in the sun by the pool more than made up for that. Oh sunshine how I love you!
For dinner I met another consultant at Monti's. I have serious had dreams about their spaetzle Goat’s Cheese Spaetzle with Portobello Mushrooms & Truffle Butter.
Hi! I'm Kiersten, a thirty-something from Maine who accomplished my major life goal of running a marathon on all seven continents. Now I'm in the next phase of my life- being a Mom to a little boy and a dog name Sushi, a wife, and a pediatric nurse. Join me as I run, bike, swim, eat, and laugh my way through life.
